Simon moved to Cape Town, South Africa, to receive treatment for his alcohol/drug addictions and found a home there. And he found good quality treatment within a massively supportive community.

Access to good recovery treatment in Cape Town (and in the UK) is not easy to navigate. And it’s not available to all. Those without the money to afford treatment are often left with nowhere to turn, and those with money are often ripped off by treatment providers who see treatment as purely a business, rather than a service.

Simon set up Cape Recovery as a social enterprise to help people navigate the world of recovery treatment (for patients and their families in both South Africa and the UK). But he also wanted to provide sponsorship to those unable to receive treatment. And he had an ultimate aim of opening a Cape Recovery House as part of a longer term vision to make recovery treatment, in South Africa and the UK, accessible to all.

We don’t know exactly how this will develop, but with the help of Simon’s colleagues – Marc and Danni at Cape Recovery in Cape Town – we are going to explore the best way to set up a social enterprise, or charity, to see these ideas develop. Any money you can give will help us explore these options, set up the required organisation and get Simon’s vision off the ground.

At the very least, some of the money will sponsor someone who can’t afford it through addiction treatment in Cape Town. The type of person Simon met, or talked to, every day and was always looking for ways to provide some form of help. Or we may end up raising enough to set up a charity and seeing Cape Recovery House become a reality. This is a long-term aim, and we’ll be keeping you updated on how all of these ideas develop.

Thank you

Long live the dream and vision of Simon Turner. A hero to me and so many others! He made me believe in the impossible and helped me when things seemed helpless. Count me in where I can!
